Chef/Kitchen Manager

If so, then Grace Café wants you to lead our exciting new venture – Grace on the Go. Grace on the Go is a food trailer operating out of a commissary kitchen. 

Job Summary:

Grace Cafe is a non-profit pay-what-you-can cafe located in Danville, KY. Our mission is to increase food security in the Danville-Boyle County community by providing access to healthy food on a pay-what-you-can basis.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Chef/Kitchen Manager is responsible for all food sourcing, preparation and oversight. The Chef/Kitchen Manager will adhere to the core values of Grace Café and our mission-based nonprofit business model and will focus fresh/local approach for menus for all food served. The Chef/Kitchen Manager at Grace Café will be a team leader, a team player, comfortable with the media, resourceful, creative, and actively promoting Grace Café’s mission at all times.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Follow and manage the company culture that is in Grace’s mission, everyone is treated with dignity and respect

  • Plans menus for all food served at Grace Cafe in collaboration with the Executive Director

  • Oversee all food production; responsible for managing inventory and purchasing of products

  • Assume responsibility for the daily operations of the food truck

  • Work with the Executive Director to set yearly budget for trailer

  • Forge and maintain relationships with vendor partners and farmers

  • Ensures that high standards of sanitation, cleanliness and safety are always maintained throughout all kitchen and trailer areas

  • Participate in daily operations of the food trailer

  • Preparation of all foods and beverages

  • Assist on the truck daily

  • Supervise staff including cooks, dishwasher and kitchen volunteers

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a role in a food trailer (truck) based environment.

  • Proven experience in restaurant and hospitality businesses

  • Culinary Background required

  • Strong understanding of daily food trailer needs

  • Be able to think “Outside of the Box”

  • Outstanding organizational and leadership ability

  • Experience with or ability to learn to drive large truck & trailer

  • Excellent oral, and written communication skills 

Competencies:

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.

  • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods

  • Clean driving record

  • Ability to travel outside of “Normal” work area

  • Ability to coordinate and manage large groups of people

Café Policies:
